They've been tearing it down the past week, after it's been condemned a few years. It's pretty sad - it was actually the first house on the block.

The town I now live in has shrunk from 20,000 people in the 80's to 13,000 people today. There are a lot of empty houses. The habit of landlords to run a building into the ground, then stop paying taxes on it and let the town confiscate it as a way of unloading it so they can buy another building that's still rentable does not help matters. In the past two years I've noticed five-ish houses that used to be there turning into empty lots the next time I walked the same route.

On the upside, I've also seen two empty houses get fixed up and re-occupied after goodness knows how long standing vacant and gutted.
