but I'm starting to feel like I maybe should not have picked Murderbot as an example of a fictional character who might really like some of our fiction.

I notice that this is twice now that Adora's gotten absolutely crappy or sarcastic advice that, in fact, is pretty accurate and applicable to her life. At this stage in the series she probably should "let go", if not of everything, then specifically of her obsession with Catra. (Also, vice versa. Geez, guys.) And Catra's absolutely right - Adora should be taking everything holograms tell her with a little bigger grain of salt. She's getting there, but slowly.

Did the writers exactly intend for this to happen twice? Because it's a weird thing to happen twice. As long as we're giving her advice, I'll repeat what I said earlier: sweetie, you need a different civilian outfit. Something that says "civilian" or, at least, not "enemy child soldier".

Murderbot canonically likes human fiction. 🙂

I wonder if Beowulf would have enjoyed a spot of Klingon Opera?

I'm pretty sure it was intentional, yes. And a subversion of the "character gets mystical advice and shouldn't actually trust it" trope.

Both Adora and Catra have terrible letting go of the past and it hurts them a lot, because they don't make the leap until nearly the end that letting go of the past doesn't have to mean letting go of each other.

By the end, though, the number of atrocities they've witnessed and fought against, and the recognition of who is lying to them and who is merely trying to manipulate them finally takes its toll on everyone.

My wife's a huge MB fan, it doesn't grab me as much. But I am amused by some of the crossover fic she's told me about finding on AO3.
