I had to go with somebody to urgent care just yesterday (no big deal, not that urgent in retrospect) and in urgent care triage I saw a sign with a new-to-me usage on it.

This is paraphrased because you're not really supposed to take photos and the nurse was like right there and I didn't think "So sorry, can you stop triaging for a sec and just lean a bit to the right so I can take a picture of this interesting sign" would go over too well.

After covid test, remember to result the chart. Patients cannot be seen if the chart has not been resulted.

Italics mine, of course. The meaning was clear, but I've never seen/heard that jargon before! Is it universally widespread in medical circles, or is it more limited by area as well?

My mother quite often deplores the tendency in UK maternity services to say things like 'the mother was consented', which sounds like it comes from a similar place.

I have relatives and other friends in the medical professions and according to them, yes, it is indeed widespread in that field.

The practice of verbing nouns proceeds apace.

I suspect it relates to their system's UI. Like someone has to click a result button or setting. Hence, result the chart.

It is entirely normalized in medical laboratories. When you determine the result of a test, or enter it into the patient record, you result the test.

(I've spent nearly decades working on lab database systems. There's a lot of interesting jargon in that environment. When you decant part of a sample for separate testing, you aliquot it. The result is, fwiw, an aliquot.)

You can't turn a chart into results. Charts are results. Oh are these, like, doctor charts, and they need to be made into a form that patients can read?

Resulted here means something like updated. The results of the test need to be added to the patient's charts, that is, the records.

But in this instance, "to result (in)" is already a verb, although IIRC only used intransitively. So I'm not sure, offhand, that this usage is verbing a noun strictly speaking.

A word I keep insisting on reading as inequities. Which is fair, but not quite relevant!

While result, a la "to result in", is indeed a verb, this clearly comes from the noun result, a la "the results of". So it is indeed a verbing of the noun "result", and not a mere transitivizing the intransitive verb "result".

It's not at all clear to me, but I've been known to miss things obvious to others - esp. when these others are native English speakers.
