I've been busy with roof fixing.

We've had a "suddenly unexpected" mishap on the porch that, upon reflection, isn't surprising in the slightest - the columns supporting the porch roof are rotted through and need to be totally replaced. He's doing that last bit for labor and materials on the reasonable grounds that we already paid him all the money we have, and also that if he doesn't gouge us we're sure to hire him tomorrow for all the other stuff we have to get done. Which we are - our only criteria was "he's the guy who called us back, and also he's licensed" and that's... pretty much still our only criteria.

Saturday we're having the electrician come in, and then... I think the next thing is replastering the ceiling in the front room. Should get the electrician in there as well.... Anyway, after that - a new washing machine!

Yeah, anytime you have walls, floor or ceiling open to redo them it's a good idea to use the opportunity to check all the wiring, pipes, etc that are exposed. as well as the studs/joists.

It may take longer, but it's a *lot* better than having to open things up *again* at some not-so-distant date to fix a problem.
