I mean, I tried, but she was watching a movie about a woman who was stranded seven years on an island and came home the day after her husband got remarried - not the remake with Doris Day, the one in black and white.

Anyway, it's so ridiculous. Obviously the correct thing to do when she walked home and found out from her mother-in-law that he was on his new honeymoon was to call the hotel and leave a message for him at check-in to call home, Mom needed him urgently it was a disaster. Or, if they didn't have a phone, because this was filmed so far in the past, they could've shelled out for a telegram, which has the bonus of being cheaper than the plane ticket she actually bought. (But if they can buy plane tickets at the drop of a hat, they probably have a home phone even then, right?)

But then, as my mother observed, there would have been no shenanigans and thus no movie. Still. I couldn't watch something so pointlessly silly.

I hear you. And sure, "there'd be no movie," but the plot and storyline still have to make some sense, unless it's intentional absurdism (which doesn't seem to be the case).

Was it the one with Irene Dunne? I think I've seen it, it was ridiculous but she was lovely...

That's often my problem with soap operas.
