He's a former prosecutor. A relatively moderate Dem, pro-choice, pro-gun.

My only hope is he adapts a more reasonable stance on that because it is a bit extreme. Otherwise, yes, yay, at least he's not the antichrist!

It is, but it's extreme in a way that's unlikely to get much traction, at least.

My fear is unless he publicly backs off it we have a whole winter of "All Dems want to eat full-term babies just like Doug Jones" to look forward to which might hurt us in 2018 races. It's sort of a wiggy position for him to take, so maybe people will just dismiss it for the bit of sci-fi it currently is.

I just googled after feeling this sort of butwhataboutism about it and sure enough, right-wing hit job after very vague and murky comments made by Jones were taken out of context: https://www.mediamatters.org/research/2017/11/29/late-term-abortion-made-and-so-doug-jones-so-called-abortion-extremism/218678.

If you scroll down that page some, you can see mainstream media eventually grabbed a hold of it, too, which is probably how I came to see the line dropped in: "and also supports abortion even up to 40 weeks" as regularly in what I was reading as FOX news followers ever did. For what it's worth, his comments that everyone goes back to were pretty vague and murky so could be, were and still are easily misinterpreted, especially by the fake news right.

And how would it be different? I dunno, I dunno, I dunno. I thought he'd been the most vocal about it, I guess (though that's not true at all; if you read through the above links, probably not even close).

It's amazing how the right can twist things to make it sound like it's something somebody wants to happen, though, isn't it (as seen in my reply above). And it's a double standard: it never takes much rope to hang anyone on our side with, yet they can say and do the most outrageous things and literally shrug and lie and just deny it all off.
