Stanford Rape Case: Brock Turner Seeks Appeal, New Trial "What we are saying that what happened is not a crime. It happened, but it was not anywhere close to a crime," Turner's advisor says of sexual assault. (OMG. Google says that if he gets a new trial, and is convicted again, he might end up with a stiffer sentence. Which he should've gotten in the first damn place. So let him go up again. Please. His family wants to burn their money, let them do it.)

Very happy to read an article that proves Ceasar Millan knows jackshit about dogs. I really despise that guy.

First, Brock Turner has a lot of nerve. I do love the idea of this kicking him in the ass and him actually getting a stiffer sentence.

Second, the timing is interesting, given how many male figures have been accused of assault or harassment in the last two months or so. I feel like there could be some connection, but can't pinpoint what, since if anything the timing seems like it would hurt him more. (However, it could also be that he plead for a retrial eons before now. And/or this is a coincidence.)

My guess is that Brock Turner realizes his reputation's pretty much shot for a long time. Not to mention being a registered sex offender, which he is trying to overturn. But even that's stupid, because he's just bringing himself back into the spotlight, so even if the registry were overturned, the whole country still knows exactly who he is when he applies for a job or to another university.

... then again, IIRC his mother and/or father said some pretty stupid things (I forget what, it's been almost two years since the initial ruling now), so clearly they're not the brightest bunch of people.

Yeah. I mean, people will be all "well the brain isn't developed at nineteen" um... you know rape is wrong at nineteen. Nothing suggests that he is for any reason incapable of understanding his actions, either.

but that he found a lawyer willing to go along with it.

*Insert ka-ching noise here* And I'm not even one to believe all lawyers are evil or anything. (I don't.) And if Brock Turner comes from a well-known family in the community, that might play a part in it as well.

(I was never clear on whether or not that was the case, or if people just assumed he was a frat boy from a wealthy family. The name "Brock" does seem pretty... upper middle class WASP, but that doesn't mean that's really the case. Not that it matters, I'm just saying that the way they got the lawyer could partly be an "old boy's club" thing.)

I had seen a "do not fuck the malachite dildo" post quite a while ago, but that was before it acquired all the nice numbers, the explanation of what it will do to your vaginal microbiota, and the connection to the Flint water crisis.
