What struck me most about NY buses last time was there is how inefficient the boarding process is. You have to board at the front and feed a card into a reader which then spits it out again. This takes several seconds per person. In the GTA, where almost everyone has got on board with Presto, you can board front or back and it's a "tap" mechanism like tapping a credit/debit card at the store which takes no time at all. Buses spend way less time at each stop.
