She's 14. Can she go to the doctor alone? She can go to the doctor alone now, right? I mean, she's in high school.

(I sure hope she can, because I have to run out with my mother tomorrow and Jenn has work.)

…I think I literally had strep eight times in one year when I was in first or second grade (iirc if I’d gotten it one more time that year I would’ve had to have my tonsils out).

The milk and sugar pods sound interesting, but I also wonder about the serving stuff (maybe similar to how places deal with sugar cubes – er, are there places that use sugar cubes?)

The gender bias stuff is both frustrating and not terribly surprising.

I had no idea Houston is the most flood-prone city in the US.

Call Ana's doctor and say "I believe that Ana is responsible enough to travel to you independently and report back accurately. What is your policy for adolescents?"

Given she doesn't have her own metrocard and my mom's appointment is early, I may ask in person when I take her today :(

I'm sure there are places that use sugar cubes, but those places also provide real half-and-half or milk in pitchers rather than plastic thingies.

I was travelling to the doctor solo from the age of 12 or 13 - but then it was next to the school, and I went to school on my own so it was kind of a win/win situation.

I was going to the doctor alone at that age, but the doctor was literally around the corner from our home. Also, I started riding the subway by myself every day in seventh grade, to get to school. So it's partly confirming that the doctor would be okay with it (are there paperwork issues?) and partly how she feels.

Is Ana the kiddo going to NYC public high school? She will be getting a school MetroCard shortly.

(Ana would get one no matter where she went, but if she went to our zoned school it'd only be a half fare, thus virtually useless. Boo.)

It ought to be okay, but there's this one really bitchy nurse, and every time I show up with the kids and go to urgent care she goes "Well, I tell you every time, they have to come with Mom" and makes a whole big hassle about calling Jenn and insists that "nobody else" would let me do it at all (newsflash, nobody else cares) and I don't know, she might make a fuss if Ana went alone too.

Hence why we mostly only ever go to pediatrics, no matter how long the wait.

that sounds like someone who wants an excuse to yell at someone: it's not as though it's unusual for kids to be taken to the doctor by a relative other than their mother or father.

Besides, it's not like she doesn't recognize me by now. She's just a pain.
