I read that Pinsker short story a few weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. I wasn't totally satisfied by the ending, either, but the concept is so fun to think about!

I had to read "The Lady Or The Tiger?" in middle school. I haaaated it. "Just tell us which one she picked!" I wanted to scream at the author. "That's your job! You're the writer!"

But then I never liked Choose Your Own Adventure books, either. If I wanted to choose my own, I would write it myself.

The Pinsker story isn't doing quite the same thing, though. It's built into the story that every choice she makes branches off into a new universe. So I get why she didn't write a conclusive ending. But it still calls up the echo of the irritation I felt in middle school, I guess...
