Today at approximately 3am, Finn woke me up.

First he had to go outside to poop, then he realized he was starving and hadn't eaten all day. This was technically true, given that he hadn't eaten since bedtime-for-poodles and that was at 10pm, but still. Nevertheless, since I am endlessly kind and caring, I got him a slice of bread to tide him over. That heel of bread represents 50% of his daily calorie allotment, not that he'll ever believe it.

And while he was sating himself and, not incidentally, getting crumbs all over my bed, I decided to listen to something. Specifically, I decided to listen to Inn Between, which I've been listening to while digging in the garden lately and which has the benefit of short episodes.

I was just about to start season three, and, hold on, let me just link to the transcript for the episode in question. It was round about the words "I could talk about how I didn’t write this story to make a greater political statement, but politics are borne of ideology, and no art is free of politics" that I stopped to ask myself a serious question:

Me: What is it that every bit of media I consume is socially conscious and so fucking earnest?
Also me: ...is that a serious question?
Me: Why wouldn't it be? Stop laughing at me, me! It's not funny!
Also me: Yes it is, and it also kinda answers itself.

*headdesk*

So, there it is. It's a good series, though. Because it's so fucking earnest, and also funny. Took me way too long to get the setting, though. I mean, it's right in the title - in between.

On a somewhat related note, somebody at /r/audiodrama a while back was looking for stuff that would remind them of Starship Troopers, and I asked "The book or the movie?" because that is a hugely important distinction, but I never got a reply. Well, I hope they got the answers they wanted, because it really sucks to get halfway through something and realize all too late that the creators seriously need to go fuck themselves go home and re-evaluate their life choices.
