Tommy has decided he doesn't want to live with us and our other cats. This is not a terrible surprise, really, and I do think he does better as an outdoor cat where lots of people can love him ALL THE TIME.
I wasn't even feeding him for a while, our neighbor was, but that neighbor has since moved so I'm trying to remember to give him some food once in a while. Which brings us to our new porch cat, Lola. I'm not sure how or why we obtained a porch cat. She's feral, though the girls swear she approaches them for food. I'm not really buying it, but I've been dutifully giving her cans interspersed with handfuls of dry food. And my diligence is paying off! Today she didn't flee from me at all, and did initially start to approach me before remembering I terrify her and backing off to a prudent distance. Then, when I fed Tommy, she actually came closer to me (but not nearly close enough to touch) and meowed so I wouldn't forget her. For a feral kitten, this is a huge step. (And I think she IS a kitten. She's small enough to be one.)
It's really time to stop putting it off, get my TNR certification, borrow a trap, and get her fixed. Or him. I haven't actually seen this kitty closely enough to make that determination - when s/he flees from me, it's always tail down. The girls call it Lola, anyway.
