Why Do the People Raising Our Children Earn Poverty Wages?
Women who care for poor kids are often mothers living in poverty themselves.

I got that latter article from the NYTimes, which called it "the poor subsidizing the poor". Don't read the comments, it's all "greedy poor people shouldn't have children", and while "don't have kids you can't afford" is probably sound advice, "punish poor kids for having the audacity to exist" really isn't. Plus, a lot of them more or less explicitly state that they think that before you have a kid you should be prepared to pay for any contingency, no matter how expensive, and that's unreasonable for just about anybody. (And these are the same people who hate the idea of paying for birth control! Whether you think it's right or fair, people really won't just stop having sex on your say-so, folks! Especially if you happen to be a jackass, and it's fair to say that those commenters generally are.)
