And finally, this article. See, two weeks ago, a local paper published the names and addresses of handgun owners in the community it serves. This is all information in the public record, it's just that not many people are inclined to spend their time seeking it out.
Apparently this made some of the gun owners feel unsafe (despite the claims that one buys guns to be safe, I guess, I don't really...?) and some of them have retaliated with death threats, incitement to harm the reporters children or steal their credit card information, and the like.
Now, we can all have a conversation about the propriety or ethics of publishing this information in the first place, but responding to that with death threats, much less against uninvolved children, is very wrong. There are levels of wrongness, and some things are much more wrong than others. Plus, it makes all these people look exactly like the sort of people most of us don't want owning guns. Seriously.
So, yeah.
