conuly: Quote from Heroes by Claire - "Maybe being different isn't the end of the world, it's just who I am" (being different)
I was puttering around making lunch when I realized I was humming something. But what? Halfway through I realized I was singing - but what!?!? I knew not.

So I kept singing until the end of the verse... and the second... and it hit me. I was singing Lord Randal.

Except I don't know Lord Randal, although apparently I do. I'd skimmed the words yesterday while looking something different up for somebody else, and I guess it stuck. In one skimming. Weird. (Why this talent never strikes when I need it to, I don't know.)

This year, when it didn't, I said "Okay, so it'll rain next month, April showers and all that".

And when April came and it didn't rain and it didn't rain I said "Well, so it's a little dry, it's sure to rain for a few weeks in May". And when May came and went dry, dry, dry I said "Wow, dry spring - I guess we'll have a dry summer too. That's... well, one dry summer hardly means anything alone, we'll be fine".

And now it's June, and the month has barely started, and it's pouring down rain all day. And when the rain isn't coming in a steady beat it's pounding on and on in buckets, and when it's not doing that it's drizzling drizzling drizzling all over the place. Woke up the middle of the night to a thunderstorm, woke up this morning to drizzle, left Evangeline at naptime to rain rain rain.

THIS IS NOT COOL. (Actually, 61 degrees and wet weather *is* cool, but in the not-cool way.)
conuly: Quote from Veronica Mars - "Sometimes I'm even persnickety-ER" (persnickety)
1. Did I mention my consternation when I heard Ana saying "Awesome" all the time? I couldn't figure out where she picked it up, and then I discovered that it was from me. *I* say it all the time!

2. I was typing when Evangeline woke up, and she sat next to me and wanted to type too. So I asked her what word. Then I sounded the words out letter by letter and showed her the general area (row and half-of-keyboard) the letter was in - and she found the letters (the rrr letter or the sss letter) herself! COOL.

3. Then we did Starfall. We did M. One of the ones on M was mask. So I asked her "What do you think this is?" "Zombies?" So I sounded it out. Mmm. Aaaah. Sssss. K-k-k. Maaah. Sss. K. And she got it! "MAX!" The next one was masks. How does she say masks? "MAXES!" Maxes is a very consistent way to pluralize max, but of course mask isn't max. I find this inexplicably interesting, even though it's not actually. (Evangeline did the typing with help for this again. IS IT NOT TOTALLY AWESOME??? TELL HER AND ME HOW AWESOME IT IS!

About somebody wanting to replace her clover with grass "for her babies" (we all largely piled on to politely enough say that clover beats grass any day of the week) got me thinking - our huge patch of clover that went from the front to the side of the house is much smaller. The grass is taking over!

So I want to reseed the clover, naturally. And I thought I might put a few patches of other groundcover on the edges here and there, like creeping thyme and whatnot. Can anybody suggest other groundcovers that are attractive (look or smell or feel pretty) *and* that can stand being stepped on often? It's not so much a yard as a creeping path - one day I'll draw a diagram of our house and yard space.
