Burns on her lower body, and they aren't letting her out until the dead skin has all sloughed off.
So I went over yesterday with a mutual friend (that's my ride) to help watch the kids. I spent some time there myself with friend's two boys, Brandon and Cody and mutual friend's girl C (whom I've mentioned before - she's got the weirdly spelled name that would immediately identify her no matter what), and then C's mom showed up again later with the baby, who'd needed (but didn't take) a nap.
C's mom could have been there the whole time, but she didn't feel up to watching four children (and their grandmother who, unfortunately, is apparently going senile and is likely to start fires by leaving candles and food burning and never checking on them, that sort of thing - a candle was burning when I entered the house, and it *was not* in a child-safe place either), which I understand completely.
Today I'm going out with Ana and Deniz to a special program. I *want* to do this, I set it up a week or two ago, but if I'd known I'd be helping out on Saturday I might not have. It's nice to have a day off in a week, and last Monday doesn't count.
Anyway, C's mother apparently loves carrot cake, but the woman doesn't bake, so for her birthday in a few months I'll trek over to her house and walk her through the steps of making her Very Own carrot cake. I think I may have to bring all my own supplies. I'll make her pay for the flour and oil and eggs, though. This is random, I know, but as I said before - I love to bake in the summer. And my carrot cake is good, too. (Many things I bake aren't. Last time I went over to Brandon's house we made the worst cookies I ever had. I like to experiment, and often start out baking or cooking by seeing if there's anything that could stand to be used up. This is how I learned to bake, but, as I've said before, it is not a very good way to get consistent results.)
