The "sending kids out to play before they've eaten lunch" thing sounds like a good idea in theory, but it would totally suck for the diabetic kids, who need to eat before they exercise. :-(

Entirely possible, but then the diabetic kids are singled out and made to feel different because they can't go outside and socialize/play with their peers. They have to sit inside and eat while the other kids go out to play. (Happened to me when I was a kid; I had to sit in the nurse's office to eat while the other kids went out to play because we weren't permitted to eat on the school grounds.)

Thank you so much for posting these. It's wonderful to be reminded that not all people are complete idiots, and some of them have really good ideas. I've always said it: small changes can make a huge difference.

One thing I loved about Waldorf School was the lunch period. On a nice spring day, we'd all take our food outside, sit in a big circle on a blanket, and eat while our teacher read us stories. It was marvelous.
