We baked cookies for Ana's teachers yesterday, and gave her main teacher two books (Cookies and Christmas Cookies, if you're curious - a bit of a splurge, but first year teaching in a new school? She's got to need to stock that library. I donated to the gift fund as well, so I think I'm covered!)

There were plenty left over for us, so today I packed four in Ana's lunch, explaining carefully (like she listened!) that one was for her and three were to share with her friends. "But there are 23 kids in my class!" "Yes, but you can only share with three of them. Deal."

That left three in the little container.

After breakfast, Evangeline asked if she could have some. Yes, I said, right after lunch. And looking in the box, without counting, she went "I can have two and you have one, right?"

I was so tickled I hugged her and agreed. Then later I realized I got totally played, because, hey, she's the child! I should get two! She should get one!

But I can reach the cookies stashed on top of the fridge...!

Evangeline's not much of a breakfast person, and I doubt she does much for dinner either, but she sure does love her lunch. This is what she has very nearly every day:

1 half sandwich. Today it was chicken, lettuce, mustard, and mayo on good wheat bread.
3 - 6 cherry tomatoes
3 - 6 baby carrots or carrot slices
3 bites of some green veggie - today it was celery, but I try for snow peas
Half a banana or apple
A serving of prunes or raisins
Optional: red or yellow pepper rings
Optional: Six or seven grapes (I usually do EITHER the pepper OR the grapes)
VERY optional: Cookies (two, apparently!) or some other fruit, such as mango or kiwi.

And she'll devour the whole thing. Ana, she doesn't eat much lunch and I know it. Evangeline: All about Lunch.

Ana, I'm sorry to say, got punched in the stomach by her sister the other day. While Evangeline was having a time-out, Ana explained to me that she couldn't breathe. Why? "Because she hit me in the flems, Connie!"

I explained first that phlegm is the icky stuff that coats our lungs and throats and is like snot, then that they're called lungs, then that lungs are kinda like bags in our chest that fill up with air (she thought that was pretty interesting) and then, funnily enough, she stopped not being able to breathe right! Guess she forgot all about it somehow!
