Periodically, people call me judgmental.
Jan. 23rd, 2008 08:23 pmAnd then other people rush to say I'm *not* judgmental.
Frankly, it doesn't bother me one way or another. Maybe I judge people unfairly. Maybe I don't. I figure that other people's views of how judgmental I am or am not say a lot more about them than they do about me anyway.
I'm saying this for a reason.
The reason?
I'm watching Wife Swap right now.
This is my super secret guilty pleasure that nobody knows about at all. Even you. You don't know this! You'll forget as soon as you're done reading!
And the reason I like watching this show? Probably the same reason as a lot of folks - these people don't know me or what I think of them, and they've chosen to put themselves up for public discussion, so I think it's fine time for judge-a-rama over here.
Woohoo! Totally guilt free!
And here's my first judgment - the people who make this show? They're totally prejudiced against strict families. Ye gods. It's not even subtle.

Date: 2008-01-24 01:58 am (UTC)Though, the freegan family had their own kind of strictness and a very narrow ethical code.
I like the freegan mentality but as with all things, it can be taken too far. I, personally, like to keep an open mind about everything and take what suits me from everywhere and fit it into my personal code/ how I do things if that makes any sense. I dislike the idea of being locked into one particular mindset.

Date: 2008-01-24 02:02 am (UTC)I remember that one. Man, though, the other family that time was creepy weird. I understand how attached some people are to their dogs, but... if you can't put your actual human children first, then you shouldn't have the children in the first place! (And the poor dogs couldn't even be dogs. That's not a good life for them.)

Date: 2008-01-24 04:24 am (UTC)The biggest thing that strikes me about the members of these families is how narrow-minded they are, but then again you get better drama, and thus better ratings, out of it, so I suppose that explains it.
