It's a choking hazard. Less so now, but I, at least, still ban it on the grounds that it'll "make the baby jealous", which is actually pretty true.
Also, I just dislike gum, and don't want to spend my money on it. If her parents do, that's their business, I certainly won't stop them, but they aren't big gum chewers and it's not going to happen on my watch, certainly.
