Even if there isn't in my neighborhood store, there will be elsewhere, I can ask around. So, if it's available in *your* local supermarket (or equivilant), I'm interested.

Really, we've got the weirdest stuff in our local stores. Jenn's corner stores (two of them) sell fresh ginger, extracts, dates... and Quaker Oats Instant Grits. In packets. With flavorings.

Why is it that oatmeal gets sweet flavorings, various types of fruits, but grits gets savory ones, butter, bacon, and cheese? There's nothing inherantly "can't be savory" about oatmeal - look at haggis! And I doubt grits Must Not Be Near Sweet Things Ever, so... what gives?

Because Grits taste really gross when it's sweet. And traditional meals pair it off with ham steaks and the like.

Grits also pair off with bacon and butter in the mornings. Really, it's closer to 'breakfast mashed potatoes' than grits.

I don't know. I like my grits with molasses or maple syrup and cinnamon. And I like my oatmeal well buttered and with bacon bits in it. Oatmeal with chunks of spam in it was a WWII food I still like to eat. It brings back memories even if my kids all grimace at the thought. And oatmeal with cheese - the seriously sharp Cheddar and some baby mozzarella, and chives and a dollop of yogurt or sour cream or creme fraiche - that's a dinner that will stick with you through a hard day's work, especially if you add a bratwurst to it and a slice of good graubrot.

No clue. Grits are fantastic with grape jelly, or with milk and sugar.

My husband has often wondered, and I agree, why cream of wheat isn't available in different flavours the way otameal is.
