What's up with bear ears on children's hats? Seems like everywhere you look, there's another baby hat/hood/snowsuit with bear ears on it. The baby has four snowsuits - the knit one, the white one, the pink one, and the one-without-ears (aka the blue one). Ana's got a pooh-bear hat with ears on it. They've even got this lime-green outfit with a bear on it, and bear ears on the hood, and claws on the feet. (And if she's already cunningly disguised as a green bear, why the heck does she need another one on her chest?)

Mind, it's adorable, but... what's with all the ears? And why bear ears? Why not ever cat ears or bunny ears? And (and this is key), why can't I get hats with bear ears on them????

(Come to think of it, all my hats are made by my mom, so I probably *could*. I should look into this....)

I have a friend who makes Gloomy Bear hoodies. I'm thinking of getting one from her.

Haha, gloomy bear. That's pretty funny.

I've actually seen some cat eared hats, caps and hoodies too. Also a panda one. Frog eyes also come to mind. I don't think there are any others I've seen...

I'd make you a bear ear hat. or buy you a hat and knit bear ears onto it.

I think kids' hats have ears because everyone secretly wishes that THEY could walk around in ear-hats, as adults. But they can't, because no one makes adult hats with ears. So they just make more for the children ;)

a few years ago, i made a fleece hat that was dalmation spotted, with one spotty ear and one all black ear. for myself. it was cute. people gave me weird looks where ever i went but it was so fun. then i moved to AZ; it's too hot here for fleece hats.

kira has a hat with big floppy dog ears--store bought. and one with cat ears--homemade. she doesn't have any bear hats.

I bet bear ears are just easier to make than any other type, particularly bunny ears.

This somehow reminds me of a towel I had as a baby - it had a hood. Cutest thing ever, I was small enough I could wrap it around me and be completely covered. It had a whale embroidered on it.

I presumably had one like that too, since Mum made one for my doll and most of my doll's clothes were copies of items I had.

You CAN actually get eared-hooded sweatshirts and such, I know they are a "thing" with the teenagers around here. I'm not sure where one gets them, but Connie, if you head to the Muddy Cup for poetry night, one of the emo kids there should be able to tell you. :-P

I once saw care bear hoodies with ears at hot topic once, but they were super-expensive for a stupid sweatshirt. I have a pattern in some book somewhere for a grownup hat with bear-ear options...and there's definitely an online one for a cat-ear hat.
