I have a question...
If you're friends-only, why is that? If you don't mind telling me, that is :)
I mean, is it because you actually had somebody objectionable posting in your journal or reading it? Or is it just a general feeling of privacy?
If you're not completely friends-only (some posts are public, or you make public posts but only friends can comment or somesuch), why is it that way?
Why are you answering my question?

If I know enough weird creepos in real life, there are surely even more people online I wouldn't want nosing around my private thoughts that my friends are more than welcome to read and comment on.
And yes I do have a (bad) habit of posting revealing info about myself that I don't always want the public to be aware of.
I'm answering your question because I feel like it. *nyah*
Hope he doesn't find this...
Personally, I don't care who reads my journal. The only friends only things I ever do are when I'm writing something i don't want certain people to see. For example I made a post awhile back about thinking my friend had stolen my art style, and didn't want her to read it.
Re: Hope he doesn't find this...
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Most of my friends only stuff is either:
1. Stuff that's in a special filter so that it doesn't clog up the lists of other people (like if I post a thing about "yeah, we can meet up on friday", I'll post it just for the people I'm meeting up with)
2. Occasionally... well, just once, stuff I want one person NOT to see
3. Stuff that relates to private posts in other people's journals... if they want that privacy, I won't be the one to break it. Again, that usually goes in a separate filter so most of my friends never will get to see it.
Adds up to very few posts, actually, especially since most of those get deleted or made public after a few weeks have passed.

I'm answering your question because I think it's interesting.

I customize who reads what entries. Sometimes I'm bitching about someone and I just don't want them to know about it. Or I'd rather not have people that I regularly deal with know when I'm going through a personal crisis because they try to help and I don't like that sometimes.

If I write about other friends, I usually make the post friends only so they don't somehow chance upon it and be offended.
Posts about bad stuff in my life or family matters are almost always put into some level of security. There are enough strangers who list me as friends that I would definitely be uncomfortable with some of them reading my posts. Anyway, I don't think that the majority of my "friends" need to read about my personal problems... and certainly no strangers do. They are likely not interested, and even if they are, I wouldn't tell near strangers private things. Only about eight or so people that I trust are actually able to see a lot of my posts. You're one of them, so you might not realize that.

Now I feel special. In a good way. I like to keep my journal open, that's why even most friends-only posts will, eventually, be made public... I honestly don't care if all the world reads about it since I don't know all the world. But I'm an attentionwhore. *hugs* And I have comparatively few problems that I talk about, so that's something else too.

Actually, more than 99% I don't really give a damn who reads my journal.

1. I don't want my DH reading all the nasty shit I write about him.
2. I think if anyone is interested enough in me to want to read it, they can add me to their friends list and I'll add them back - if they ask, or if I notice.
3. I want a bit of mystery about me if some random person randomly finds me and links to my friends only journal from the public one.
The other one (this one) is as public as you can get.
And anyone can comment on both journals.
I'm answering your question because you're interested and I believe that people who ask should be answered. It's how we learn and how we make decisions.
