I feel very sorry for all such miserable wretches. I feel sorry for Hitler. I feel sorry for O. J. Simpson. These are human beings whose irrationalities, whose insanities, were left unchecked. They destroyed themselves as well as others. This world does not have adequate protections against insanity and irrationality--for Society in general or for the irrational and insane. a graduation? what kind of idiot is he? he probably could have had much more support if he picketed the normal functionnig of the school. Students would have skipped to join something like that, but a graduation is far too sentimental for anyone in their right mind to attack it.

Your logic there is faulty. There are plenty of things which are legal which I consider immoral, and which are illegal but I consider to be OK. There are all sorts of reasons for this sort of problem, ranging from outdated laws, to people disagreeing, to necessity of protecting other activites, and so on. People preaching bigotry an intolerance is something I find abhorent and aboslutely not OK, but it is legal, as well it should be. On the other hand, smoking marijuana is illegal in most countries, even though I don't have a problem with it. Trying to claim legality as the main difference between these different activities is like trying to say that the law is infallible, and that we should never do anything like campaigning for changes to the law.

Of course, Phelps-Roper's logic is even more faulty, but I hate to see this sort of thing challenged by faulty logic, especially when there are so many much, much better reasons why what they say is wrong. The main, obvious one is that homosexuality, incest and bestiality are completely different things. You might as well say "if cheese is OK, then so is incest and bestiality".

Given that they picketed *Reagan's--Reagan's* funeral, I think (hope?) that they're actually a minority, even among more fundamentalist branches of Christianity. They're just noticed a *lot* more frequently than they statistically deserve because they're...like...insane. "God struck down the Columbia!!!!!"
