Poor [profile] eofs has never seen the Princess Bride.

No, I'm not kidding. Do you have a DVD player, EofS, (and what does that mean again, your name)? If so, I'll buy you a DVD and send it to you. You *need* to see this movie.

It's just as well. If she hadn't said that, I wouldn't've been reading the script right now. I can hear the actors as I read. I don't know why I bother, I very nearly have the whole thing memorized anyway.

Good movie, that.

Edit: Oh god, there's more of you? Well, you're just going to have to share the DVD, I can't afford that many. I'll lend it to E first, who'll send it to innerbrat, who'll sent it to oloriel, who will (hopefully) return it to me so I can watch the Princess Bride. Not that I need the DVD, it's on cable at least once a month.

Oh the script! I love you!
I loved the movie when I was a kid and my love has grown stronger since this summer when they showed it on tv and I finally read the book.

It's one of those movies I've tried to watch many times, but it always puts me to sleep.
Just like with the Matrix Reloaded.

I have the soundtrack, and whenever I listen to it I can see exactly what's going on. That's obsession, I think.

You have read the book, too, right? Please say you have! I think I've read it 3 times. There's even this part where William Goldman says he wrote a scene that S. Morgenstern left out and if you write to the publisher you'll get a copy of it. So I did that and I got a letter about a lawsuit cuz Morgenstern's estate was suing Goldman or something... I was about 10 years old at the time, and I really didn't know whether or not to believe that S. Morgenstern REALLY wrote the book or not. *sigh*

I can't tell you what EoS means ;0) But EofS means Emma of Saunders. Ie my firstname of my surname. I'm the youngest in my family, so the obvious borg designation is borrrrring - 4 of 4. So instead I went for initials. It used to be E of S, but somewhere along the line (about 5 and a half years ago) I forgot the spaces. It's only recently I even discovered I used to use them.

As for The Princess Bride... I have a good friend in the US who has promised to show it to me when I visit her (she was similarly appalled that I hadn't seen it) but unfortunately I don't forsee that being anytime in the next four years. It seems to me that it has a huge following in the US, but hasn't impacted in Europe

*Sticks it into IMDB* Oooh, Peter Cook and Mel Smith. Directed by Rob Reiner... 23494 US viewers have rated it an average of 8.4, 9935 non-US viewers at 7.8. I really should hunt it out some time. I oughta get myself a rental membership (although I won't live practically next to a Blockbusters as I did last year, bah) but I'm trying to cut back on leisure spending this year. Hmm.

Sorry to say so, but unfortunatley, we don't actually have the Princess Bride in Britain at all. Or we do, but it's very hard to find. And frankly, I've never really heard of it.
That could be another reason why Britain is rather boring.
I personally don't want to borrow the DVD, though it's nice for you to offer it to people :)

[identity profile] eofs.livejournal.com 2005-01-04 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Amazon does list a region 2 DVD of it, although it's 1-2 weeks for dispatch. There's no indication that it's an import from elsewhere in Europe (plus the main language is English) so I guess it is homegrown. But I don't believe I've ever seen it in a shop, or noticed it in the TV schedules. Or heard an English person talk about it.

I've seen the movie about 7 or 8 years ago, I hardly remember it though.
