I've seen this a few times on my friends list...

What I don't understand is why. It's not sweet. It's not even clever. It's stupid. The best way to slow down a car (or motorcycle) is NOT to "hit the brakes" but to let up on the gas. That's what they say for ice storms too, that when you start to skid, you don't hit the brakes and go out of control, you move your foot from the gas pedal and wait for the car to slow down.

*sighs*

What a load of balls. If people are going to write crap like this, they should at least spell brakes properly.

And you're perfectly right - engine-braking is far superior to using the foot brake (or whatever the motorcycle equivalent is).

Depends on the 'cycle--my father has motorcycles with handbrakes and motorcycles with footbrakes. In general, the larger the model, the more likely it is to have footbrakes.

What a bunch of crap.

The misspelling of "brakes" was quite annoying.

Like you said, try letting off the gas. Moron.

AND, if he really loved her, wouldn't he have had her wear her own helmet the whole time?

Hmm. I love you, so let's ride around, while I protect only myself, instead of just having two helmets to protect both of us.

Another point I thought of when telling that poster my "love theory" was that a helmet isn't going to save someone on a motorcycle going over 100mph.

That's a lot of deceleration when they finally hit something, and no protection for the body. If she gets thrown, it's pretty much over for everything except her head.

Maybe she landed on a flock of geese.

Of course. The logic of that story dictates that she had to have landed on geese. Or a fluffy pillow cloud that swooped down from the sky to catch her. Pretending that a cloud could actually hold anything, that is.

Of course, no matter where she lands, her heart is not likely to be able to stand that jolt.
Think Dale Earnhardt in Nascar. (Yes, I realize that was closer to 170mph, but still).
Rapid deceleration is a bitch.

*blinks* This is one of the very *first* things we learned in Driver's Ed. Slamming on the brakes is usually a /stupid/ thing to do under most circumstances. Unless you are really, truly unable to swerve out of the way (Yes, it's better to swerve out of the way most of the time.), slamming on the brakes is a bad idea. We were told to try to veer out of the way and let it pass us if something was coming. If you experience a blow-out, slowly ease off the gas. Oh well. More reason for re-doing driver's ed every so often, neh?

That's not really an option here in Texas...

Nor in Georgia. ::sigh:: I'm still struggling with it... blasted perceptual distortions that continue to plague me...

Agreed. Sacrificing yourself for the beloved is only touching if it's not a situation you could EASILY HAVE AVOIDED. Sorry, kids, go back to plot school.

Personally, I'd prefer if the newspaper could spell 'brake' properly, but that's just my pedantic self...
