More articles. (Brace yourselves.)
First, let me say that I'm told the previous article in diabetes IS, in fact, really bad. My apologies.
One on the avoidance of the term "rape" for children who clearly WERE raped.
On the trend of diagnosing children with bipolar disorder - worth reading
A 1960s parody of commercials
The Pope has more or less approved condom use by male prostitutes to prevent the spread of AIDS. This is one of those situations where, if you can get inside the logic that leads to "condoms for male hookers = yes, condoms for married couples = no" it makes internal sense. I guess.

On Nov. 4, Anderson Cooper did the country a favor. He expertly deconstructed on his CNN show the bogus rumor that President Obama’s trip to Asia would cost $200 million a day. This was an important “story.” It underscored just how far ahead of his time Mark Twain was when he said a century before the Internet, “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” But it also showed that there is an antidote to malicious journalism — and that’s good journalism....

A few articles
Mixed-use neighborhoods may reduce some crimes
An article ambitiously titled "Evolution in Action" about how some skinks give live birth
What to do if you lose a body part. Not likely to come up, but better to read it now - are you really gonna go google if your fingers get chopped off?
An article on the bedbug conference
Hilariously, it notes that the bedbug control folks all religiously checked their rooms first thing. It'd be the worst kind of irony to come home from this event with a few little hitchhikers!
Interesting quote here: “People still have in their heads that bedbugs means someone’s dirty,” Mr. Linde said, “but I handle multimillion-dollar homes in Westchester and Connecticut, and believe me, no one’s dirty.”
"People" think bedbugs mean you're *dirty*, but *he* doesn't bring up dirt, he brings up wealth. Because people do think the two go together (or don't, rather).

Thousands of Trees Killed by New York Tornadoes
This is right on the heels of a huge tree-killing storm only half a year ago. Two years before that we had the storm that took out half the (remaining) trees on our block and a spire off the church up the hill. They call these "freak storms" but how freakish can they be, really?

Some articles
An article on psychological problems faced by Chinese-American children coming "home" to their parents after being sent to live with their grandparents. Interestingly, it seems the worst of these problems are caused by what ought to be a good thing - due to the proliferation of preschool, parents are calling their kids home at younger ages than they used to, at 2 instead of 6. Of course, two year olds are less likely to understand that these strangers are their *families*, you know?

After Losing Freedom, Some Immigrants Face Loss of Custody of Their Children

If the argument is that Ms. Bail can't take care of her child because she's imprisoned, why not deport her now? They're going to deport her anyway, wouldn't it be more cost-effective (and humane) to get it out of the way so her family would not be separated?
Or, for that matter, I've heard of prisons for women convicted of non-violent crimes where their children can live with them until a certain age. While not ideal, surely that'd be better than taking the kids away altogether.
