So, the whole "new baby" thing...

'dul and Jenn kinda sorta maybe want to continue the "angel" theme. They have an Angelique, they might get an Evangeline, it's all angelic, right? 'dul rather insanely thinks "Seraphim" is a good name for a boy, nevermind that it's a plural.

This has led to my mom repeatedly pointing out that the two angels mentioned in the Bible are Michael and Gabriel.

Once again, Wikipedia comes to the rescue. There are other angels mentioned by name (though not all of them in the Bible). Raphael (he's in the Bible) and Metatron come to mind. I won't be mentioning this to Abdul. He just might get it into his head that Metatron is a great name.

(And yes, this is what prompted my last Wikipedia related post. It's amazing what you find there. Though if I keep this up, I'll be memorizing the meaning of names again and trying to figure out what each part means, something that never ends well. I'd better find something new to read up on.)

Eep, don't mention Metatron to him. It doesn't make me think of angels, it makes me think of transformers. lol Raphael is nice though IMO.

It makes me think of one of the baddies in His Dark Materials. He is an angel, but damned if I'd name a kid after him.

all I can think of is THE Metatron, from Good Omens. :P

And here I thought Metatron was a villainous TransFormers robot.

Well!

P. S.: you do realize that the plural for "supreme law enforcement officer in a county" is "sheriffim", do you not?

I don't like all those fancy typefaces with angel wings and haloes sprouting out of all the letters... I much prefer sans-seraph fonts.

You may now throw rotten vegetables. :)

Seraphim for a boy? Definitely a female name. Kid would be teased f0 3v4. (Well, just for elementary school, really. But it might well feel like forever.)

I would be tempted to try to get the dude to name his kid MegaMetatron, just for kicks. But it would be too cruel.

Metatron would get the poor kid teased for life. Rafael, Michael, and Gabriel are all good names though.

he's in the Bible

Depends on the Bible.

According to the Wikipedia article, he's only mentioned in a deuterocanonical book (Tobias/Tobit), which some (many?) editions of the Bible leave out as being part of the apocrypha.

As was mentioned, which angels are mentioned depends on which texts you accept. One of the main differences with apocrypha versus accepted texts is that apocrypha tends to give names to more of the non-God Heavenly creatures. There's also Uriel. And, I think, Ariel is considered a Uriel variant, and it's a decent name for a girl - although it now has Little Mermaid associations.
