Interesting....

When you click the link to see the video, you're supposed to hear "dah dah" while watching, and "ba ba" when not. But if I'm watching, I hear "ga ga". I don't hear "da da" unless I'm trying to hear that. Weird... Hey, reply, say what you hear.

I hear "ga ga" as well when watching! Or actually, it's more like the guttural "gh" sound in Dutch...

I'm hearing a 'da da' when watching and a 'ba ba' when not, which I believe pegs me as pretty NT.

Same here. Though I had to turn up the volume quite a bit to hear the consonants at all - at first I just heard "ah ah" all the time. ;-)

I also hear "ga ga" when watching and "ba ba" when not. I barely heard "da da" even when trying.

I hear/see the same things.

I clicked it and made a point NOT to watch it. I heard a slightly slurred but what seemed a definite "ba ba."

I watched it and immediately got "da da" in my head, and I couldn't think otherwise afterward. I had to read and then watch to really see that his tongue was not doing the necessary motion for "d" in the video.

That's a neat effect, though, and it makes me think even more about the ways we make noises and their subtle differences in sound.

I'm still trying to figure out how my hearing is so sensitive yet sometimes "jumbles" my understanding of speech. I might hear something loudly but not clearly and have to ask someone to repeat what was just said. It's aggravating. My mom has the same (or similar) problem that I do, so it may have been inherited.

About the "jumbling" of understanding... that sounds a lot like Central Auditory Processing Disorder (which I've been diagnosed with). Check out the community info for [livejournal.com profile] capd for more info, if you're curious.

I'm hearing "ba ba" when looking away and "ga ga" when watching. And I wondered about where the hell the "da da" is supposed to come from since his tongue seems to be too far back for the "d" sound. Ahah!

I hear "glah glah", when I'm looking and "va va", when I'm looking away.

Ga-ga, both watching and listening.

Great, that made me feel insane. I hear "ga" when not watching, but when I look at it, I only hear "la" no matter what I do. La?! Where did that come from?

[identity profile] ascian.livejournal.com 2004-12-12 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
I started not looking, and it was definitely 'ba'.
Then I looked, and it was an odd-sounding 'da', like his tongue was touching a different place than usual.

The thing I found nifty is that I could open and close my eyes and hear the sound change depending on whether I could see or not, so a single playing would go 'da ba, ba da, da ba'. I could do this until my visual memory retained the face even when my eyes were closed, at which point it was all the odd-sounding 'da' to me.
