I forgot.

Happy fall! Happy autumn!

Technically, the equinox used to be considered the middle of fall. Fall started at what we'd now consider the middle of summer. I think. And Halloween was the beginning of winter, with the solstice ("Midwinter") being the middle, not the beginning. Which makes sense. Why should the shortest day be the START of winter? Wouldn't the start be when you notice the days are getting short, and it's really getting cold out?

How about BOTH!? ... XP

I love both.

I prefer autumn, but I'll occasionally catch myself saying fall.

And your rant makes so much sense.

I prefer autumn, but Maggie (the daughter) told me to tell you she likes fall. Hates the word autumn and complains every time I use it.

Heh heh. Well, I just asked her and she said, "Because it reminds me of Autumn to May and Autumn To May reminds me of Autumn Tomato."

Autumn To May is a folk song my mom sings to her and I guess everytime she hears of it she thinks of autumn tomato and doesn't like thinking of autumn tomato. That's the best translation of that I can give! :)

Coincidentally, my dad just got quoted in one of the local papers explaining the astronomical definition of fall - when the sun crosses the equator.

I say fall starts in early September, when it starts to get cooler. Winter starts December 1, because November is a fall month and December is a winter month.

fall is the week between summer and winter here. Seriously, monday I was wearing shorts, today it is snowing for the first time this year

I use fall because that's what the leaves do so it makes more sense to me. Also because I knew a girl named Autumn in middle school and we did not get along. I feel mean for that, though.

And the July the leaves summer on the trees? ;0)

Summ'er on the trees, summ'er on the ground.
Aren't I dorky?

Autumn is a prettier word, but I only say fall, so I voted for fall.

I never really understood either why the shortest day was the beginning of winter, but then it never bothered me much because LA seems generally most wintery from December to February. (My sister and I like to say that we have two seasons: summer and January.) So it doesn't make sense, but then again it does.

I say both, but I voted Autumn since I view it as "more officially" the name of the season. For some reason, though, sometimes I get it confused with "August" because of the first two letters.

I live in Texas. I didn't feel free to vote for either, since technically it doesn't exist here. Autumn is the much prettier word, though.
