In other news, Eva and I have started watching Avatar, the Last Airbender together

which neither of us have seen before. We're not very far in yet, but we're both of the firm and decided opinion (from the very first episode, but it's only getting stronger) that Zuko and Sokka need to get together.

Tell me there's fanfic of that pairing.

I have never looked up anything fannish for that show, but I can guarantee there will be fic. :)

And YAY! It's so goooooood. ♥ Zuko is my darling forever.

698 Sokka/Zuko works, out of 11,688.

https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Sokka*s*Zuko%20(Avatar)/works

I'll note that the series ends up with enough female characters, with enough development, that one of the reasons for a fandom being dominated by slash doesn't apply. Both Zuko and Sokka will have two or more respectable het ships winked at by canon.

Category demographics are

F/M (5245)
Gen (4248)
M/M (1654)
F/F (1231)

which is a very atypical distribution. Or excluding Korra works:

F/M (4782)
Gen (3796)
M/M (1506)
F/F (899)

I ascribe to the theory that you can draw a crosstab chart for any media with a fandom, and there will be at least one fic at the intersection of every possible pair of characters (and many OT3's, OT4's, etc, but that gets more difficult to chart).

...which means, I believe, that there have always been such shippers, and it is only since the dawn of the internet that most of them have been able to find each other to trade stories. I mean, Firefly Rayne? (River/Jayne) Whatever for??

"I can fuck you with my brain."

The funny bit is that I've never thought of River/Jayne and yet I can immediately see multiple paths to it.

River discovers she likes manly, even if they're dumb and treacherous.

Mutual hatefuck.

River revenge-rapes Jayne.

Jayne rapes River.

River's "crazy" and doesn't know what/who she's doing.

They crash somewhere isolated and habitable and get bored.

They crash somewhere isolated and cold and have to huddle.

...I'm not saying these could be good, but I can see material. Both characters are sensual in their own way, there's passion or reason for passion even if the passion is mostly loathing...

Ooh, I hope you both enjoy! You're really in for a treat, in my opinion, so I hope it holds up for you. :)

And yes, there is definitely Zuko/Sokka fic out there.

As far as I know it's just another shorthand version, like simply saying 'enjoy', when the 'it' in question is understood for anyone involved in the discussion. I'm a life-long New Yorker who has been surrounded by English speakers who grew up in Spanish-speaking homes (and in many cases Spanish was the first language), many who were my friends and used that construct. So maybe it's a construct that transferred over from one language into the other and I picked it up from listening to it.

Anyway, AtLA is a terrific and well-written show and I hope it holds up for you. :)

\o/ Best show is best. I am firmly Zuko/Katara, and I love Sokka/Suki so much. But Sokka/Zuko has high entertainment value.

You are in for an amazing journey! We're re-watching Book 3 rn. ATLA is one of the best-written TV shows period.

It is a well-crafted show that takes advantage of its own episodic nature to tell long story arcs, letting the scope and scale of impact of the party's actions expand as their awareness of what is going on does as well.

Zuko and Sokka most definitely has fics. They're not the most popular ships for Zuko or Sokka, but I'm sure they're there.

I recently started watching it myself for the first time. It's enjoyable fun, which I want at the moment. It reminds me a bit of Mercedes Lackey's 'Elemental Masters' series (set in an alternate Victorian / Edwardian London).
