Family finds live owl while decorating indoor Christmas tree with owl ornaments in GA

The only thing we found in our tree was a cute little pinecone. If you have bad eyesight and aren't wearing your glasses, barn owls apparently look a little like pinecones - just look at that picture! Isn't it cute?

Back when we brought trees in, we found nests in some of them. Abandoned, of course.

I find it amazing that they got all those ornaments on before they spied the owl. But then it was apparently leaving and returning so maybe they don't reach deep to hang balls.

We had an owl hanging out in our apartment complex in Las Cruces, saw it on a fairly regular basis. That was pretty cool. We see them frequently up here in the mountain.

I remember I was up here once before we married, and we were going to the observatory late at night. Just S of town, headlights caught this large weird rock in the road, so Russet slowed down. Then the rock's head turned around, we saw its eyes in the headlights, and it flew away.

Very cool! Big ol' probably screech owl.

That little guy looks young and was probably a bit traumatized by the whole experience, so staying quiet in the tree was probably the best defense it could think of.

Still, so awesome! And I hope her or she is out catching field mice and making a happy new home in a great big tree.
