Seems silly, but I also wouldn't go walking around downtown Manhatten barefoot ;)

Oh I'm not concerned about glass and whatnot. I'm more concerned about the living creatures you can't see underfoot. It would really suck to get hepatitis from stepping on someone else's bodily fluids without realizing.

heh, i don't even like touching stuff with my hands. i'd be more concerned with feet since you're never too sure if you have an open cut or other wounds on your feet so something can get up in there and fester. I know for me, I can have a cut on my foot for weeks before I even notice it. Guess my nerves aren't that sensitive down there.

Well, those are orthopedic shoes, which are usually covered by insurance.

That said.... my mother can't go barefoot, for example. She lacks almost all sensation in her feet, and can easily get a cut or puncture wound that she wouldn't know about and which would almost certainly become infected and probably septic (she's diabetic). Many diabetics become amputees because of injuries like this.
