It's really nice to hear about a teacher doing something wonderful, for a change. It seems like the ones that get publicized are doing some seriously terrible things.
My sister and i were never really pressured by our parents to be gender-conforming, though Dad keeps having to suppress his expectations (he gets excited if i dress up for anything, and he mentioned that i could always adopt a kid since he doesn't understand my aversion to kids). They knew i liked Hot Wheels, Legos, horses, and blue things. My sister was more "stereotypical girl" with dolls and pretty clothes.
I don't remember our teachers being gender-expectant, though i also don't remember them having any lessons on gender nonconformity. Our parents sent us there partly because they were more liberal-leaning than the other local schools.
