I got to bed late this morning, like 4am.

So I wake up late this afternoon... well, early this afternoon.

And I check my journal. And I randomly check a comm somebody's in, [livejournal.com profile] statements, and see a lot of vague statements about worries and such. In my dazed state, I still eventually realize that they can't all be talking about the Olympics still, so I check CNN....

HOLY SHIT.

I know people in London. At least, I know people in England and the whole place is a bit of a blur to me, and I'm not sure where in England any of you actually are, so if my friends could kindly comment and tell me they're not, y'know, dead I'd be very happy.

Note the breezy tone of this post. This is how I cope with the situation. It is not meant to indicate in any way that I am not taking this seriously. However, I'll pretend I'm not until I find out a bit more.

Edit: Regarding the community for the purpose of keeping track of LJ'ers who are in London....

It occurs to me that terrorist attacks and natural disasters will happen again and again and again...

Somebody should make a comm that is inactive except in emergencies, so we wouldn't have to keep making new ones.

I'll wait until after this crisis passes, then start one. I'm cynical enough, right?

Or maybe I won't.

I was up 'til 4 this morning too, and surprisingly, up at 11.

I'm in statements, but it's not on my list actually, so I hadn't heard much about this yet. A few people have updated on it. I'll be looking for news links now.

If you went to bed at 4am you were probably nearly up late enough...

And I'm fine, and a couple of hundred miles north of London, although I was sent home from work 5 hours early. But that's because tonight I will sleep with my phone on and my bag packed, enabling them to call me into work at a moment's notice in the morning.

Within the first couple of hours I spoke to my Dad, who was in London in the area, and he's fine (at that point I actually knew more than him, having access to TV whilst he was only just going to the slow to update internet.) Trains still aren't going from London to our region though I don't think. I suspect he'll end up having to go North-West and then come back across the country.

But we're ok thanks :0)

He's on a train back to our region. Yay. He had to walk past the bus to get from his office to the station though.

I'm alright-I'm around 60 miles south of London.
I just wish people would keep quiet about the bombings and stop worrying. It gets annoying. And it is not out 9/11. *hates hyped up news stories*

[identity profile] wodhaund.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
That's been bothering me all day. Most of the people on my friends list have been saying "OMG, it's 9-11 all over again!" and I keep saying "No, it's not! It's dickheads doing what they do best - scaring the shit out of innocents!"

And, being in many ways a New Yorker at heart, it's kinda sad that I keep having to say it. Bleh.

I think this entry (and its comments) (http://www.livejournal.com/community/metaquotes/3467123.html) has been my favourite today. Just for summing up... stuff. There have been some great metaquotes actually. Londoners have reacted exactly how you'd expect, with a stiff up lip and some gallows humour.

[identity profile] wodhaund.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Gallows humour really is the best way to react in a situation like this, in my opinion. It allows you to confront what's happening without letting it overwhelm you.

[identity profile] wodhaund.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That entry, by the way, is the most wonderful thing I've ever seen.

Well if the terrorists bombed London, CLEARLY that means they're after you and me, you know. *eyeroll*

Looks like there's already a bumper sticker/ribbon type fad going.

I hate how things like this get used to sell useless crap.

And how long until wristbands with that on are made? I see them coming for some reason.
(England has a wristband craze at the moment)

[identity profile] neurotica0.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Those plastic wristbands? For all types of cancer and any other thing you can think of? We have them too.

I don't see how people think they're making a difference by spending a dollar on something where a portion of the profit will go to some charity.

And who knows where they are made and what kind of unjust labor practices you might be supporting in buying them!

[identity profile] thetwistedsista.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup-them. I avoid them mainly, but I only have a couple. I hada Bullying one-but it snapped, and I only wear a Make Poverty History one at the moment.
But then again-people are easily fooled.
Probably China. But at least they're not the fake ones-they are just all for profit for the person selling.
