$150 dollars? I like the idea of being a permanent member, but how many years is that, seven? I'm not really sure that's worth it -- how many of us can guarantee that the site will still be here and worth frequenting, much less that we'll still be interested in journaling? Sucky. Maybe even if it were $100 or $120 it would be more worth it.
A year's worth of paid journal, PLUS extra pictures, is $35 (assuming you buy both services in one-year lumps. Buying bimonthly makes it more expensive).
Still, that's a fairly large sum for something so uncertain. Just think how many books I could buy with that amount! How many skeins of yarn! How many CDs and computer games! With all of those things there's a guarantee of the use that I'll get out of them.
Oh, I'm not arguing with you on that. I wouldn't buy one for myself, because I get the PAF every couple of months, for example. But it's not nearly as bad as seven years in advance.
*bounces happily* I LOVE my calvin icons! I'm especially thrilled because I just found the CD of mine that has all of the calvin and hobbes comics ever saved on it. (Don't worry, I have the books too. The fact that I paid for them as well as makes it better, right?) This means that I can make EVEN MORE calvin icons!
Hey, figgy, since you're back on the computer, you wanna be maintainer of my much-neglected _comic_icons_, the one which never got the love showered upon book_icons?
Hmm, maybe make me co-maintainer? That way I could put some work into it, but you'd still have the ability to add another person or update the userinfo etc. etc. etc. if I take another break. I am on the computer a lot less, but almost all of the time that I do spend online is devoted to OI and iconing, so it probably wouldn't change much to work on _comic_icons_ as well.
Done. It's unlikely that I will spend a lot of time co-maintainering, since I don't already, so I give you full leeway (not that you technically need it, but) to add people you trust to share the burden, such as it is.
The only way to get hold of a purged username is to rename an account (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=25) to that name (either an account you already have or one you've newly created (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=104)); you can't create an account with the name of a purged account directly.

Really, I think it needs more benefits than it has, but I'm not sure what else they could offer. Oh well!
