Update on the article-begging

Now I need to find an article by a Haarman which is some 15-20 years old, about foreign language use in ads in Japan. And it seems to be cited a lot, but I'm not finding the article I'm trying to look for. Has anybody read this? Just, like, as light reading? *sighs*

I found a reference to a book from Germany, 1989, by H. Haarmann, Symbolic Values of Foreign Language Use with some lengthy subtitle about Japan. Much harder to find a whole book online than an article. If that's what you're looking for, anyhow.

Are you willing to pay, or are you asking specifically if it can be found online? I checked proquest and such, and it doesn't have the article in its database. (Just to double-check - the article you're talking about is the following? Haarmann, Harald. "Verbal Strategies in Japanese Fashion Magazines--A Study in Impersonal Bilingualism and Ethnosymbolism." International Journal of the Sociology of Language 58 (1986))

But if you're willing to order it, you can find out how at this link: http://www.degruyter.de/journals/ijsl/384_5426_ENU_h.htm

You probably know this already, and are hoping to find the article online, but I really don't think it can be found.

Oops, wrong article. You want the ad one, right? But anyway, I searched by his name as well (both Harrman and Harmann) and neither showed any results on Proquest. And the ordering information (which I suspect you're not interested in anyway) would still apply. :)

i think the author is Louann Haarman - not Harald Haarmann
