Things which irritate me on LJ

1. People who center all their text. Do you have any idea how hard that is to read? Stop doing that. There's a reason text doesn't automatically center.
2. People who fuck with the font colors. If we wanted our font to be in a different color, we'd set it to do that on our friends pages, or within our browser's settings. Stop that. It's not cool, interesting, or worthwhile, it's just hard to read. Oh, and fucking with font sizes? Unless you have a very good reason for this (and it has to be a very good reason, mind) don't do it. It's stupid.
3. People who don't know basic or LJ-HTML, but instead of finding out how to do the HTML instead whine "I'm so sorry I can't do this right" when posting. Use your brain and read the fucking FAQ for a change.
4. Actually, that's it.

Gah, all three things in one half-hour. This must be my lucky day.

Oh, no, wait, I forgot chtspk. Yeah, that sucks. STOP IT.

Oh yes, and large images. WTF is wrong with you? Don't you see what that does to your own journal, and you have to inflict it on random strangers?

2. Following a recent plot, many people in a roleplaying community I'm in use white text to indicates MysTEEEERious subtext. The problem is, both my LJ and my character's have black backgrounds, so I always get confused as to why there's random comments in the posts...

3. Oh GODS yes. HTML is piss easy, dammit!

4. People who don't check their HTML before posting. Especially quiz results and memes.

Like I said in my own comment... just as annoying in the font-color department is people who hard-code an extremely dark font color, expecting that you'll be reading it on a light background. Seems that the Rich Text editor has this thing where it will explicitly specify a font color of black in some circumstances, making the post completely invisible on my friends page.

I have one addition to your otherwise fine list. I was actually thinking just earlier today about how much it annoys me when people mess with their font size on LJ. Making your text tiny does not make you cool, unique or interesting. It just makes your text several orders of magnitude more difficult to read, and what you write normally isn't worth reading anyway. And that goes double if you're posting to a community; do it in your own journal and I'll be somewhat peeved but respect that you can do what you want there, but if you're in a community please try to be considerate. Grargh. Stab. Kill.

And, tangentially, the people who think it's okay to post to a community in 'No capital' speak. They think it makes them cool but it's the LJ equiavlent of running through a Starbucks shouting 'I'm an inconsiderate stain of uncertain origin!'

Type like a weirdo in your own journal, don't spit on communities.

Fucking with the font sizes pisses me off to no end. I have glasses already people. I don't need to make myself more blind by straining to read something that's tiny and mostly uninteresting.

There's a person in one of my RPGs that always sets the font to tiny and it drives me up the wall. She does it in her livejournal too. Doesn't look as tiny on my flist on Greatestjournal as it does on LJ, though.

Heeheehee.

There's a [livejournal.com profile] damn_you_lj for this sort of thing, you know? Just saying. I mean, I'm not the creator or anything.

Argh. The font colors and font sizes are one of my biggest annoyances.

It's always irritating when people post long paragraphs of text in 7- or 8-point text... I have to squint to read that. I know, I can hit Ctrl+Plus to increase the font size in Firefox, but it's still bothersome.

And font colors. Invariably, these people always use a relatively dark font color because they have a light background color on their journal. Problem is, I use a black background with white text on mine, as I find that scheme easier to read. Either that, or they'll have a table cell or DIV with a light background color defined but not a font color, which ends up showing up on my friends page as light text on a light background. So either way, it's unreadable.

And don't even get me started on chatspeak. I can understand it for text messages and TTY calls. I can't understand it for LiveJournal posts.

I only tolerate font-color changes in one person, because it's part of her core personality. The centering thing annoys me, too, as do the big pictures and the "I dunno HTML DUH!" folks.

Also, people who sign their posts and comments drive me batshit. This is LJ, folks, not a discussion board, email list, or newsgroup.

I have my font set to 8pt, and black. I have it set small so that I can fit a lot of text into one entry. I don't like having to use LJ cuts unless I absolutely have to.

[identity profile] leora.livejournal.com 2005-03-03 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, and as you might imagine, it causes even more problems for me.

That and scrolling text... if you make anything that moves, there's a good chance that it will move too fast for me to ever be able to read it. My vision is slow, because it requires more top-down processing than most people's. I cannot read most things that move. And when I can, it's still obnkoxious and irritating. Plus, then I have distracting movement on the page that I need to cover up.

Stop it people. Just stop it.

All of this goes quadruple when people do it in the *!&~ disability communities.

Large images are annoying when they screw up the text on the screen and I have to keep scrolling back and forth to read them!
