I hate [community profile] feminist sometimes.

Somebody posted a link to this enlightening thread. Now I will have to read every last friggin' stupid comment on there.

On the plus side, it will make from some interesting (if somewhat sad) post material. If I can bring myself to copy that dreck into my journal.

And it was amazing, so many perfect, gorgeous people, sharing their opinion there!

Isn't it facinating how much perfection resides on LJ?

I think women worry about it more than men. Most of the guys I know don't even care. I asked the boyfriend once whether it bothered him that I don't shave my legs more than once every few months, and he got this confused look on his face and said, "Honestly, I never noticed. You have leg hair?"

oh god

what cretins some people can be sometimes. who cares if she doesnt shave her underarms? it isnt like their faces are gonna be under their anytime soon, and if they were, i am sure she would have them smitten by her giant bodyguards.

OMG! She's not shaving her head. How irresponsible... and she's a celebrity!

*pfft* Geez, what "cosmetic" tightwads, some of those dinks are! "OMG what NASTY HAIR!" Sheesh. "Promoting a trend to go without shaving"?? SHAVING is the fad! I had a roommate once who was the same. What purpose did she have in watching me unclothed anyway to even care?

My HUSBAND doesn't care that I have hairy pits or legs, though he finds it sexy too when I've made them all smooth and made that effort. I don't shave unless I bloody well WANT to...and sometimes I will just for the "American cultural politeness" factor, like if I'm swimming or wearing shorts. Shaving is a hassle. I don't even care if my husband has facial hair, so long as it's not porcupine-ish against my own face if he wants a kiss. ;-)

Some of those stupids would be just mortified by the present state of my legs and pits. I even have a faint wiry blond "mustache."

I saw that first on metaquotes-- it's amazing how much longer it's gotten in the past... like, 8 hours.

I still don't get it, and none of those people could explain it other than "well, it's gross! Feminism's dead!"

Buh-wha? That's not even a "women are equal, we don't need feminism anymore" argument, it sounds more like "feminism's failed us, now go conform to our strict beauty standards!"

I like [livejournal.com profile] thelala's comment (http://www.livejournal.com/community/ohnotheydidnt/1119653.html?thread=60880037#t60880037). She's on my friends list for a reason.

"That she's famous is exactly the reason why she has the responsibility to avoid mindless Victorian Age ideas of how a woman should look."
