It's just a different operating system. Like the difference between Internet Explorer and Firefox...but to a larger degree. Windows is dominant, but there are other options. Linux being one of them. I've seen it and those who use it love it...but really I don't know much about it other than it's
A. different
B. just as usable when you understand it
C. Needs an emulator or interpreter for some of Windows functions, but can process Windows stuff with the proper tools.

I'm sure if you asked, someone in LJ land is way geekier than me and has a love of Linux that can explain it better. ;)

not as usable even if you do understand it. The dyslexic are fucked on linux. Trust me i know.

That's rather scary, especially the fact that they schedule their ads to appear the day welfare cheques are issued. And it's true: I shop at Wal-Mart because it's a place I can afford to shop in. Cat food costs 39 cents a can there and 59 cents in the grocery store. During the months I'm not working and don't have an income, that 20 cents makes a difference. And I hate shopping there, because I feel like I'm contributing to exploitation, but like I said, it's one place I can afford to shop.
