On Childfree-ness.
So, I guess G-d also wanted poor Andrea Yates to kill her kids? After all, He was the one who wanted her knocked up so often when she was going insane from it.
Here, I'll tell you what. You think it's immoral for me not to want kids? You deal with the kids that are already here - get them all fed, and schooled, and clothed, and take in the ones that don't have parents. Once there's no child in dire straits, sick or dying from something preventable, then I'll go get myself pregnant. Promise. Worry about the kids that are here before you worry about the ones that aren't and never were.

So you're supposed to have kids just because a book told you to, huh? Well, that same book tells you not to eat eel or insects, and that if you undress a woman when she's on her period you're going to hell.

That worldview is sick, but more and more common.
Whatever.
Now, to be fair, part of me is concerned about the low birth rates here, simply because our social system is based on every new generation taking care of the previous one. If the number of old people increases all the time, but there are few young people to take their places... that causes trouble. Saying that the world's population is already large enough is hardly an argument since it's a matter of distribution.
But okay, I'm going off on a tangent there. I don't have a problem with people not wanting children. As you said, there are enough unwanted children all over the place. I just think it's a shame that it's usually the smart people who decide not to procreate... the world could use more of them. :-P

fact 2) with a 3 % increase in current imigration quotas most first world nations with aging populations could fix their pouplation ballance inside the 10 year period that people who talk about the aging population are afraid of
fact 3) most of the people in Australia who talk aobut younger people haqving to shoulder a highg tax burdern to pay for aged care are welthy baby boomers or older. In other words people who within the next decade will no longer be contributing to the economy. People who are the ones who have contriubuted most to the ageing population difference.
Personaly I expect either a flood of imigration or alternatively an agist revolution. If people are smart they will take the imigration. If people are their normal, ignorant conservitive idiot selves, within 20 years time, there will be the blood of the elderly flowing in the streets.
