Huh.

Nasa is studying the guy who inspired the character Rain Man.

That's an awkward sentence, but at least it's correct.

Have you read The Speed of Dark?

That book actually claims autistic people can't go to space. Why? Well, just because. AAARGH.

That's it, no reasons given by the author. No, autistics can't do that. That's all. If one goes into space one has to become NT. (Yeah, sure.) *makes angry face*

Now you can see why the book annoyed me so much that I have a hard time writing a review on it now. (I'm reviewing it for a Hungarian SF e-zine, Solaria.) It started out so good and then it devolved into pointless fluffy NT love and pity. Oh gawrsh. And read the reviews on Amazon.com, everyone seems to love it back. Maybe I'm living on a different planet...

Er, dumb question, but what does NT mean? I went to look it up, and got the National Theatre. I hope you guys don't turn into theatres.

Please don't kill me with deadly cuteness! *begs*

ROTFL!!

Connie's already explained it, so I won't do it again... but this comment ("I hope you guys don't turn into theatres.") was overwhelmingly cute. Do you mind if I put it in my quotes file?

"Neurotypical" actually annoys me because it's so imprecise... what's up with people with some misc weirdness in their nervous systems that's definitely not autism? They can't be called 'neurotypical' in the strict sense and yet, everyone uses 'neurotypical' as 'non-autistic'. But heck, it's a lot better than "normal" which is, IMO, offensive to both sides.

And everyone uses it, which is important... I love the expression "heterists" (especially in Hungarian) but I manage to confuse everyone whenever I'm using it, somehow; it never caught on as much as NT did.

So I just use NT because of the consensus factor and pretend it's not short for anything. The problem is that in Hungarian, they don't shorten it so I cannot pretend. Nothing is perfect.

(Oh, how you call Gentiles in Hungarian is even worse, as Hungarian doesn't have a Hungarian word for "Gentile", "non-Jew" sounds stupid, and some Gentiles are 100% convinced "Goy" is offensive.)

Argh, that's about 100 times more for a reply than you expected. Sorry, I'm horribly verbose.

I don't mind at all! I'm flattered, actually. ^^;
