I don't know if anybody here ever read From Anna by Jean Little

It's a book - two books really, but I forget what the second is called - about a young girl, the youngest in a family of five children, whose family was happy for a chance to get out of Nazi Germany when a relative died in Canada and left them his house and business.

Anyway, in the past few weeks several people seem to have commented that Donald Trump might smirk a lot, but he sure doesn't laugh very much. That's the same observation Anna's father makes in the beginning of the book about Adolf Hitler. Maybe other people made it about Hitler back in the day, I don't know.

I love From Anna, one of the first coded-autistic heroines of any book I'd read. I love Anna as a protagonist so much.

I have in fact read that book. (The sequel is called Listen for the Singing, but I would not have been able to tell you that without looking it up...)

Yes, I read From Anna, Listen For The Singing, and a few other books by Jean Little when I was in elementary school. (Little herself was partially blind, and taught children with disabilities before becoming a writer. Several of her books feature child protagonists with disabilities.) She's one of my favourite writers.

That sounds really familiar and I read a lot of Jean Little as a kid, so I probably read that one. And yeah. There's something wrong with the guy.

I can't remember where I read it, but I do recall reading someone describing Hitler as a person who's smile never reached their eyes... which certainly fits Trump as well.

But then, it's also a known trait for sociopathic/narcissistic personality types.

Since I somehow doubt he'd ever voluntarily see a psychiatrist I guess we'll never have a definitive diagnosis... but yeah, there's something not right with that guy!

I first read that about Trump just recently, after he'd made fun of Harris' laugh. Her laugh is genuine; who cares what it sounds like? One of my neighbors is a stocky farm guy, and his laugh is a high-pitched giggle. The kind that makes you laugh, too!

:D

I very much doubt he'd even know what a genuine laugh sounds like. He's faked every reaction he's had his entire life, and thinks everyone else does to.

From Anna and Listen For The Singing were two of my favorite books as a small being, and I'd forgotten that description of Hitler--and definitely see the resemblance.
