People!

Learn about the lj-cut. It's in the FAQ. It's your friend. One, small quiz is about as much as should be visible on your main page at any one time. Long surveys, big pictures, more than one quiz? HIDE THEM IN A FRIGGIN' CUT.

Really, it's bad enough when people don't cut pictures that only they have. I guarantee, any quiz you post, you're not the first. Nobody wants to see the same quiz 20 times on their friends page.

No, I'm not going to force you to change. I won't even keep ranting about it. But I periodically feel the need to ask people to start cutting their stuff.

Respectfully, you didn't ask anyone to use a cut on this post. You told them to, you know?

I've seen a few people complain about this every once in a while and I don't get what the big deal is.

First of all, the cut is not aesthetically pleasing at all and maybe they don't wanna use it on their journal because they think it looks ugly. (I think it looks ugly, it really messes with my sense of visual balance, but I use it.) Then there's that whole "it's their journal" thing. Also, isn't there a way to totally manipulate your friends page to either not show picture or show pictures only within certain parameters? I may be wrong, I don't use it, but I thought you could do that on your friends page.

I admit that I sometimes gets annoyed by very large pictures, but again, I feel it's their journal and they can do what they want with it, so I either use adblock on it (through Firefox) or I deal.

Not trying to come off bitchy and sorry if I do, I'm just curious about why this a big deal because I've seen people complain about it before.

Okay, like I said, I usually cut my pictures because I've seen you and others talk about it, but I've been wondering why it was a big deal. Thanks for explaining it.

It is, in a sense, common etiquette, just the same as it is not really acceptable to have really smelly feet and propping them up on a table. Some people do it, but it is in general considered rather rude at least in my corner of the world, I feel that the LJ-cut is of the same kind.

I've noticed LJ has it's own etiquette and am trying to learn it. Like I said, I put most things like lists and quizzes (when I do them) and pictures behind cuts, but I wanted to know why people wanted me to.

Interesting

It's their journal, but these are also the same sort people that throw hissy fits when I take them off my flist, or when they find out I have them filtered.

It's just really obnoxious to see long posts up on your friends page (I always scroll if they're not behind a cut), and pictures make it load at an agonizing pace. I'm not so beefed about pictures (you can use image placeholders, in case something nasty comes up) but those long wanky posts? Uncool.

Well, it's a long problem. HTML doesn't work with RichText. So that means you have to have a few windows up.

I find it frustrating because I get sick of scrolling past stuff multiple times as I keep checking and rechecking my friends page. If it's cut, it takes a lot less scrolling time.

I try to use cuts, but sometimes I forget. Forgive me! ;_;

Preach it, Sister! I love the lj-cut feature - even when I'm making long, meaningful posts.
