The most consistent thing I've seen with my friends who have transitioned is that they all look so much happier than they had before. I can't think of a single exception.
Yes! That they seem much more at ease with being themselves is how I'd put it, but I've noticed the same thing as you and the aunt in the letter have. To me it was the final proof (I didn't need persuading, as I already believed it) that transgender is a real thing.
