When I play it on my tablet, I use the “turn 1 card at a time” rule instead of turn 3. This makes winning common enough that its not frustrating.

I sat here for a few minutes wondering how you can cheat at solitaire then I realised you probably meant with a real deck of cards where you can just reach down and move a card or turn over a different one. (How could you cheat with computer solitaire?)

If the app lets you undo a move...

I'm not going to back up through a whole deal/round, but I use it when I've realized that I missed a card or to check which pile's card I want. I still usually have sucky stats because the games I like are the ones that require some luck to get a winnable layout. I usually run 5-10% win rate on them.

Oh! I don't think I've ever noticed that option.

How is it possible to cheat at solitaire? The rules are what you make them.

With the solitaire games, I play I'm good enough at them to be able to see when they are first dealt out on the lap-top screen whether I've got a decent chance of winning or not. So I frequently just re-deal bad ones, without wasting my time. In the old days when I was shuffling and dealing real cards (which is time consuming), yes, once in a while I'd get frustrated and cheat.

Depends. I'm after the sorting task, not the handling task, so if I am using a deck of cards and have laid them all out, I may cheat to get more sorting. Computer I don't have to handle the cards, so I get more sorting no matter what.

I'm kept honest by the fact that I only play solitaire on an app and it won't let me cheat.

I sometimes use the "undo" feature. Does that count as cheating?

Actually, it's been so long since I last played it, I'm not sure I even remember the rules.

I only do four-suit spider, so, yeah. Undoing moves helped me learn how to win the thing. Now I can win at least a game out of 5 (or more) without undoing.
