Question!

Can one offer a single congratulation?

Actually, this is a nice question. Think of the princess and the pea. Originally (well, not originally, but close enough) the word was pease (yes, like in pease porridge hot). This was a collective noun, like rice or water. You can't talk about one rice, but you can talk about a grain of rice. Back then, there was no one pea, only multitudes of pease. Hm. I wonder if one day people will backform ri from rice? *babbles on and on like this*

*yawns*

Sorry so tired. Should go sleepy. And it's early! *whines*

Night!

Wow, nifty. I love finding out interesting etymologies. I don't think I ever really knew what pease actually meant before, either.

What's the singular of Kix? Or K'nex? Stupid people coming up with stupid brand names... *mumble mumble grr*

Possibly a Kick, or a K'neck.

Perhaps "I must congratulate you" counts as a singular usage.

I'm not sure whether there's such a thing as a congratulation, but I'm suddenly reminded of the horribly translated ending screen from "Ghouls 'n' Ghosts":

'Spose congratulation could be offered to ap-pease?

But I don't know about such things.

I only wish I were as cool as you are.

Dunno.

Would that make me an "ap beeyatch"?
