One of my neighbors, her husband lost his middle finger

and apparently they had to cut open the hand to get it all out. So that puts things in perspective.

Yeesh, so they had to go into the palm to remove all of the metacarpal? Wow. Well, between my two hands I've had seven operations and have the nerve damage to show for it. Very sad for your neighbors, that would not be easy.
