Regarding the one about sex censorship, I think part of the problem is that the internet became part of the mainstream. I know I know, but it's true. It's a combination of corporations buying it out, and the mainstream finding it and not being ready for some of the things that are around.

In fairness to (some) of those examples, consumers are liable to complain if prices go up OR if package sizes visibly go down, so when costs rise - even for no reason other than inflation - they end up almost having to resort to trickery to sell their product.

Not that shoppers like that better when they see the blatant falsehood, but.

That's true and I understand that. I just wish some of them could do something like a local bakery here did a few years ago. When the price of flour went up, they put up a sign saying so and saying that that's why there's been a price increase in their products. I don't think it would work for every manufacturer, but at least the customer would understand.

Small businesses do that and it tends to work out for them, but for whatever reason, big companies never seem to want to try that method.

I think bigger brands don't want to break the mystique of their product. Like a Disney movie, they must be seen to spring fully formed into the world from a magical place where your hopes and dreams come true. They don't want you to think about the pretty mundane components that make up their product.
