One of the two most-used burners on my stove has broken....

The gas works, but it doesn't self-light after somebody accidentally spilled a whole bunch of water over the knobs. This is not an insurmountable problem, I guess, but the better news is that I hate that stove and have wanted a new one for years now and it's practically affordable to replace compared to some other things. So this just bumps it way up on the priority list.

It sounds like it's just the pilot light is out?

It doesn't have a pilot light...? It ignites via a spark, which doesn't appear to be sparking at all anymore.

It might dry out (can take a while) and start working again, but a new stove will be more efficient and there may be corrosion from the spill! I enthusiastically support your desire for a fifth burner or griddle or even the interchangeable thingy you can get on some stoves.

If you have and enjoy a gas oven now, beware, it seems to be impossible to buy a gas oven these days. The electric oven under my gas burners has a "proof" setting, but I used to just use the pilot for that, and it worked at least as well.

(Don't be me using flaming toothpicks to light the non-igniting burner.)

Yes, it is (and don't forget that we've got a furnace to replace) but it's under $750, so that's completely doable, unlike that roof.
